Aloha, Yasmine Herbie Rides Again movie , ( http://jp.youtube.com/yasmine040

)

I have just viewed some of your excellent Dari lessons at:

http://www.unilang.org/resources.php?category=videos

It is astounding how much I was able to understand, even given the rudimentary level of my poor and mostly forgotten Farsi Persian. Although, there WAS a time I could, without an interpreter, do all of my own diagnosis and treatment of patients when I was teaching Acupuncture to Western medical doctors at the Bimarestane Reza Pahlavi in Shemran, and the Clinic-e Dard in Tehran.

This was just before the Shah hit the fan.

Quite recently I have reached the determination not only to regain, but to dramatically improve, my Persian because I intend to return to Iran for the summer of 2009, to practice and teach Acupuncture there again, and also to broadcast IndyInAsia Television from there in hopes of strengthening the bridge of friendship between the people (not the government) of the United States of America, and the people of Iran, especially, and, by osmosis, people of Afghanistan in particular, and the Middle East in general.

I am writing you for three reasons:

1) To acknowledge, admire, and encourage your work as a linguist and teacher of the Dari language.

2) To see if I can enlist your help in either getting Simon & Schuster to produce Level II and Level III of Pimsleur’s Farsi Persian, or, to see if you would be interested in guiding the production of some Pimsleur-like Farsi Persian learning materials above and beyond the existing Level I.

3) To invite you to be my Special Guest on IndyInAsia Television. Of course, I have no idea of your politics, but I’ll bet that, at root, they are not that far off from mine, which are, basically: War Sucks.

If you will be so kind as to be our Special Guest, we can talk about my several experiences driving through Afghanistan on my way to and from Iran and India, our mutual delight in languages, and, to whatever extent you are so inclined, relations between the people of America and the people of Afghanistan, and how to improve them.

Wishing you the absolute best of all things in 2009, I beg to remain,

Your trusted friend,

Indy
